Stephanie Tencer

Stephanie (she/her) came to Iyengar yoga after years of debilitating back pain, trying many forms of rehabilitation and eventually having had surgery. While her healed back has become a testament to the power of the practice, she is quick to point out that physical health is only one of many remarkable gifts that Iyengar Yoga affords. Stephanie is deeply moved by the playfulness and self-discovery inherent to the practice and regularly weaves these themes into her classes.

Stephanie is both Director and Senior Teacher at Studio Po. She holds a Level 3 Iyengar Yoga teaching certificate and is actively engaged with the Iyengar Yoga Association of Canada (IYAC).

Currently, Stephanie is an active member of IYAC’s Professional Development Steering Committee as well as their Education Roundtable. She is a mentor to new teachers, involved with the assessment process, and one of a select group of Canadian teachers qualified to teach the therapeutic aspects of Iyengar Yoga.

Stephanie continues to study regularly with Senior Iyengar Yoga Teachers worldwide.

Jane

Kruse

Jane (she/her) came to Iyengar Yoga on a friend’s recommendation. Despite never having done yoga before, from her first class she felt connected with the practice. The classes were challenging, exciting, and also grounding. In those early days, she especially appreciated how helpful the practice was in breaking free from the stresses of her demanding work life.

Jane is continually impressed and inspired by the precision and integrity of BKS Iyengar’s work. In the spirit of BKS Iyengar’s generosity, Jane embraces each of her classes as an opportunity to wholeheartedly share what she has learned. Jane holds a Level 2 Iyengar Yoga teaching certificate.

Nozomi Morimoto

Nozomi (she/her) has always felt naturally and strongly drawn to yoga. In her 20s, she would regularly spend 6 months at a time in India studying and practicing. Eventually, she found herself in Rishikesh and engrossed in study under Usha Devi, a passionate and devoted Senior Teacher of Iyengar Yoga. Nozomi studied with Usha for 3 years and developed increasing love and appreciation for the practice. In time, her thirst for knowledge progressed and she desired to share what she had learned with others. She decided to pursue certification in the Iyengar Yoga method and moved to Toronto, Canada to train with Senior Iyengar Yoga Teacher, Marlene Mawhinney. Since then Nozomi has been studying with other senior Iyengar teachers worldwide. Nozomi travels to India every few years to continue studying with Usha Devi and attend classes at Iyengar Yoga Institute in Pune, India.

Nozomi holds a Level 2 Iyengar Yoga teaching certificate.

Eva-Lynn Jagoe

Eva-Lynn (she/her) found Iyengar yoga in 2001, experiencing a profound transformation in her health and well-being through the teaching of Lois Steinberg. Since then, her curiosity and love of the practice has led her to study with many teachers from the Canadian and global Iyengar community. Her classes combine her joy for teaching (she is also a Comparative Literature professor at University of Toronto) with a genuine openness to the ways in which we can deepen our understanding and enjoyment of yoga. Eva-Lynn holds a Level 1 Iyengar Yoga teaching certificate.

Shreya
Shah

Shreya (she/her) came to yoga in 2003 when she joined friends on a trip to Karnataka, India. The teaching was like nothing she had ever experienced before and when she returned to Toronto, she felt compelled to seek out Iyengar Yoga classes. At first, yoga was a once a week ‘outing’, but in 2015, twelve years into an intense career as a bond trader at RBC Capital Markets, she realized she was craving more. BKS Iyengar says that one must take the practice of yoga off the mat and with that encouragement, and the guidance of Marlene Mawhinney, Shreya was able to find the clarity and perspective she was seeking. Shreya credits Iyengar Yoga and especially the act of teaching with helping her to nurture gratitude and compassion in all areas of her life.

Shreya holds a Level 1 Iyengar Yoga teaching certificate and studies regularly with inspirational teachers across Canada.

Maia Visentin

Maia came to Iyengar Yoga in 2014, through a friend’s invitation. From her first class in Argentina, she felt an immediate connection to the place and since then, she has consistently turned to yoga to help ease daily stresses and improve her overall well being.

After moving to Toronto and studying at Studio Po, Maia recognised that what she was learning was applicable both on the mat and off. This richness bolstered her deep respect for and love of Iyengar Yoga and ultimately compelled her to pursue certification as an Iyengar Yoga teacher.

Maia is currently mentoring with Stephanie Tencer and working towards her Level 1 Iyengar Yoga certification.
