Iyengar Yoga’s 4-week cycle

At Studio Po, every class is unique.

However, as is common in the Iyengar Yoga tradition, each month the classes are inspired by a 4-week cycle:

  1. WEEK 1: We emphasize standing poses.

  2. WEEK 2: We emphasize forward extensions.

  3. WEEK 3: We emphasize backward extensions.

  4. WEEK 4: We emphasize restoration and consolidation.

  5. WEEK 5: This is a wildcard week, also known as ‘teachers choice’.

Inversions are incorporated, as appropriate, in every class.

This class structure for the month is not cut in stone so for ex. on standing pose week, you won’t only do standing poses. It’s a focus, but not a hard and fast rule. This is one of the ways that we can ensure students are receiving a well-rounded Iyengar Yoga practice.

All of our classes are taught by exceptionally skilled teachers who are always keen to help you modify your practice. You may want assistance in adapting the poses to be more accessible or you may wish to adapt the poses to further increase the level of challenge. Wherever you fall on this spectrum, we are here for you!

If you need any help deciding which class is best for you, please don’t hesitate to reach out.
