I didn't know what to expect from virtual classes, but assumed such classes wouldn't be nearly as good as real classes in a studio. I must say I was wrong. I was immediately delighted by what I experienced. Stephanie and Jane are excellent and caring teachers with a lot of experience. Their approach worked for me immediately. Who is BKS Iyengar
BKS Iyengar devoted his life to yoga rooted in the principles of the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali. He sought to make these principles more accessible by updating them to address the needs of contemporary society. He championed yoga as an art, science, and philosophy and worked tirelessly for more than 75 years, exploring the effects of yoga on the mind and body. BKS Iyengar left a rich legacy through his 14 published books, including the seminal texts: Light on Yoga, Light on Pranayama, and Light on the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali. These books are invaluable resources for yoga practitioners worldwide.
What is Iyengar Yoga
Iyengar Yoga promotes integration of body, mind and spirit through the practice of traditional yoga asanas (postures) and pranayama (breathing techniques). It places particular attention on body alignment, sequencing, and timing with an underlying aim of igniting positive physical, mental and emotional effects.
I'm a beginner, is this for me?
Iyengar Yoga is a meaningful practice for all students, regardless of body size, shape, flexibility, or age. Our classes are taught progressively according to the experience and capabilities of each student and beginners are encouraged to participate. Our Ignite the Spark classes have been designed especially for students with little or no previous experience in yoga.
Do I need props?
In Iyengar Yoga, we use props as tools to both sharpen body awareness and enhance the effectiveness and accessibility of the practice. Itβs not essential to own specialized props as itβs often easy to improvise with simple household items. Our teachers can help you get creative.
Often, students do decide they like having dedicated yoga props. If you are keen on this, we recommend: a mat, 1 or 2 blocks, 1 strap, 1 bolster, 3-4 blankets, & a chair. If youβd like help sourcing props, please send us an email and we may be able to direct you to a supplier near you.
How does payment work?
To join our virtual studio, think of it akin to joining a gym. Itβs a recurring monthly membership but with no strings, you are welcome to cancel any time. Once you have a membership, you can enjoy all the perks.
Workshops, courses, and the Drop-in Pass are available for purchase independent from membership.
Can I try out a class?
The best way to check out what weβre all about is with a Drop-in Pass. This will let you attend a live-stream class or view the replay (for 3 days following the class). You can also check out Stephanie's YouTube channel or the Studio Po Instagram account. We post lots of video clips from the clases, which is another great way to get a sense for the Po vibe.
