Shoulder Stand for Beginners || Step by Step

Shoulder stand for beginners is often challenging. The shape of the pose can be physically demanding and the use of props can sometimes be confusing. BUT... shoulder stand, also known as Salamba Sarvangasana, is a very special pose πŸ§‘πŸ•―.

There are many benefits to shoulder stand and one of my favourites is the quieting effect it has on the mind. It is soooo worth it to take the time to really understand your shoulder stand and which variations are most appropriate for you!

In this Iyengar Yoga video, I show you, step by step, how to work on this classic yoga inversion. I demonstrate 3 different shoulder stand variations, each one building on the previous. If you are new to yoga, you may wish to practice each variation for some time before progressing to the next.

Shoulder stand is a journey. I hope you enjoy the richness and depth that shoulder stand, which BKS Iyengar referred to as the mother of all asanas, provides. --> "Just as a mother strives for harmony and happiness in the home, this asana (pose) strives for harmony and happiness in the human system”. - BKS Iyengar in 'Light on Yoga'
